Hi,

Looking for anyone with information on the following areas.

I'm off on a cruise, not wanting to take too many expensive excursions and am interested in good shore snorkeling (or boat if it's outstanding) in/around the following areas:

Acapulco (ever heard of an island called La Roquetta?- is it worthwhile?)
Manzanillo
Mazatlan
Puerto Vallarta
Cabo San Lucas (Pelican Rock Cove & Santa Maria Bay? Easy to get to independently? shore or boat?)
Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo

If you know of good snorkeling that would be within say half an hour of any of these locations, I'd love the info.

Regarding Acapulco: snorkeling opportunities will be limited, as they are along much of the Pacific Coast - because of rough waters. However, I like to snorkel in the tiny bay/inlet located at Playa La Angosta where underwater life is very active. You don't say when you plan to visit. I don't suggest snorkeling close to shore anywhere along the Pacific Coast in any of these destinations you've mentioned, after a hard rain (lots of "stuff" flows downhill and down stream and into the water).

There is great snorkeling at Playa Las Gatas in Zihuatanejo and at Isla Ixtapa. These are just the places that I have tried and I'm sure there must be a lot more in that area. I love Zihua! Got to agree with Longford about snorkeling after a rain. And there is a lot of construction going on above Playa Las Gatas in Z. I haven't been there in a couple years but have heard that it is still beautiful, if a bit more built up.
