It is really frustrating at times to look a travel sites such as Expedia or even Airbnb to find a little hotel suite or apartment that fulfills the need of a traveler who works and needs both quiet, a place to make food, and totally reliable internet. I don´t mind paying up to $US80 a night in CDMX, but would rather pay $45 to $65. And it doesn't need to have the owner´s lovely or quaint furniture (that can break or that you are responsible for), preferably simple and modern with a good a reliable hot water supply, a fairly quiet location and reliable WiFi for my online work for five or six nights. The Ibis chain comes to mind, but I am not sure how quiet or how good their WiFi signal is. CitiExpress chains sounds OK but often isn't in the city center.

With so many fake reviews online, it is sometimes hard to believe if the good reviews are real or even the bad reviews on Expedia, TripAdvisor, et cetera (the walls were thin, the hot water was not reliable, the WiFi signal was iffy, etc.) I'd prefer to be in an area that is not any further south than the World Trade Center and for the purposes of this trip, I don't want to be in either Coyoacán or San Angel. And though I like la Condesa and Roma, it doesn´t need to be chic. Any CDMX travelers here with experience of places they've rented or hotels they've stayed in (RECENTLY) that fit these criteria?

I'm kinda confused about how this why this would be frustrating "even" with Airbnb?

There are so many on there in this price range it's like shooting fish in a barrel. The only frustrating thing is trying to choose between 100's of good options.

I wouldn't really stay in hotels anymore in CDMX considering the insane studio apartment stock, but I'd say that Airbnb reviews tend to evaluate (though one problem is that some of the coolest, newest properties don't show up as readily as the ones that've been trampled a bit).

One tip, look in the Narvarte area, it's where I stayed last time and there are toooons of great options, especially in the Oberero Mundial and just south, for example around Parque las Americas and near the Etiopia metro station (right around your southern boundary and extremely pleasant for walking).

I know what you mean about finding reliable wifi, but it helps to keep in mind that these days it's so easy to get a Telcel SIM card and use your phone as a hotspot, just in case.

I recommend the TelMex Hub on Isabel Catolica in the centro historico of Mexico City: max speed 10 GB/sec (with cable, a little slower with wi-fi), and free.

For someone with a laptop?

Why though?

Yes, mclarjh, as enroutesiglo comments, why would I go to a Telmex hub? I need to use my laptop in a quiet place and require talking to people online as well, so it has to be a my room or suite with a table and WiFi.
enroutesiglo, I will take your advice about Navarte or Doctores. Either one of those areas are fine and near transport.

Well, just to visualize a bit... Doctores looks close on the map, but it's basically night and day above and below the huge "Viaducto" road. The place right north of Narvarte is actually the southern part of Doctores, called Obrera, and while it's a super interesting place, living there wouldn't be for the faint of heart (actually, the small neighborhood directly north, Buenos Aires, is even worse in many ways). Zooming in on the Airbnb map, you'll see a ton of options right long Calzada Obrero Mundial, then north of there, suddenly nothing. It'll probably end up being a hip neighborhood in 5, 10 years... but for now, not so much.

Narvarte is actually huge and stretches down below the WTC limit, but the northern part is super comfortable, and being near the Viaducto or Etiopia metro stations (I was in between for a while, which was perfect) makes things very attractive. Even Col. Del Valle could be a good option.

There's a ton of competition between Airbnb hosts so I think that if you get someone with a decent internet installation, you can be confident it will work.
