Dear LPers,

I am planning a trip with a group of at least 20-25 people to Ensenada / Valle de Guadalupe in the fall. Ideally we would like to stay in a big house with lots of bedrooms or a small hotel mostly to ourselves in the midst of the wine region. The idea would be for a bunch (if not all) of us to stay in the big house, that we can use as a base also to hang out or have a BBQ and such. We actually haven't seen that many options on Airbnb, and there are only a few hotels that seem to fit the bill. Do you know of any house or hotel that you think would be a good choice?

Thanks for your input!

Are you reluctant to consult a travel agent ... or are you a travel agent asking us to do the leg-work for you? Which is it?

Huh?

Neither. I have rented similar houses a couple times in the past and I’ve found that many of them are off-market (only available through recommendations or on places like Airbnb or homeaway and such... not on major hotel websites like Expedia and the like). As I said, I checked several of those and I can’t find anything that we like. Also, I’ve found thorntree recommendations very useful in the past. In any case, I appreciate the time you took to respond.

When you say in the fall", specifically ... to which time period are you referring? For one of the popular food and/or wine festivals? Thanks.

Early November. I don’t think there are any festivals in that period. Thanks!

If you haven't already done so ... consider cross-posting your question to the active Baja Nomad forum. Doing so will put you in touch with a larger audience familiar with the areas you're asking about.

Contact real estate agents in Ensenada - sometimes they manage rentals. Also Gaviotas has several casitas available - you could get 3 or 4? Maybe consider going during the Guadalupe Valley wine festival in August. Very special event.

The Valle de Guadalupe Fiestas de la Vendimia (Wine Harvest Festival) will take place this year from July 26-August 19, 2018.

The Vendimia is a series of elite parties and events held mostly at individual wineries. Galas, dinners, wine tastings and grand parties celebrate the harvest season for the grapes and showcase the local cuisine and wine. Tickets for all events should be purchased in advance and as soon as possible (the most popular events sell out quickly). Tickets for most events tend to be expensive, but there are a few free events and some more affordable ones as well. Hotels should also be booked early as the valley fills up quickly during Vendimia. Check out our list of Valle de Guadalupe hotels. We recommend staying in Ensenada or Rosarito if the Valle de Guadalupe is booked
E.g., Sunday, August 19: “Concurso de Paellas ‘Ramón Garcia Ocejo’” Paella Contest
Place: Viña de Liceaga Time: 12 noon This huge event concludes the Vendimia festival with more than 50 winemakers presenting over 130 different wines. 90 teams will make paella, competing for first place. This is one of the most popular events of Vendimia and tickets sell out fast.
