This is Good Friday, so this comment is not entirely relevant to my OP. But here, truckloads and busloads of people are headed up the highway to Tzintzúntzan, a seat of religious observances here. Late this morning, I even saw a family strike out on foot over the campos y cerros towards Tzin. One was carrying an umbrella.

numero 7.. your correct... semana santa is a little less crowded than carnaval... but Semana Santa isn't that much better.. still large crowds, hotels and restuarants full.. buses packed to gills, roads jambed up with traffic.. visitors all having a good time..

but not particurlarly favorite time for locals...
