In December I would like to do the Copper Canyon by car.

Is there any car rental company in Los Mochis that allows to leave the car in Chihuahua ( so without returning the car to Los Mochis) ? Or opposite , in Chihuahua that allows to leave the car in Los Mochis. I couldn't find any ...

I suppose there won't be snow on the montain roads between Los Mochis and Chihuahua ?

Thank you for teh information

Every time a frente frio comes through, there`s a chance of snow. I remember seeing televison coverage of snowfall in that region, more than once. Finally, read this: http://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/winter-hits-chihuahua-with-25cm-of-snow/

IMO that looks like a daunting driving route - better get 4WD, something with clearance. It will definitely be cold in the mountains in December.

Opt for the "train"... taking collectivos into the Canyon... In Mexico, one is made to drive, not merely steer ... carracar

I was reading that the temperatures in the lower valleys were around 22°C but in the mountains cold.

I'm not prepared to travel in the snow , taking the train is an option but with low flexibility. The ideal thing would be a rented car with drop off possibility.

Thank you for your reactions;

Thing is, there are no major roads between Chihuahua and Los Mochis through the canyons. E.g., I don't see any roads crossing Sierra de Surutato in the SW direction of Los Mochis (once coming via a zig-zag route through Barranca del Cobre, Barranca de Batopilas. There is only one road out-and-back in Barranca Urique and it emanates from the rail line.) Depending on your interests there is a lot flexibility in traveling around the area since you can get off the train in several places, and be able to spend some time exploring, hiking or taking horses into Barranca Urique, visiting Tarahumara ranchos. Divisidero, Urique, El Fuerte are interesting places to explore. The train route is special in itself and shouldn't be missed. From Creel you can take the bus into Batopilas (there was a recent post about the narco control there - judge for yourself). You can also get off that bus and spend time in the mountains en route to Batopilas if you want. These are two distinct spectacular, steep, rugged canyons -- driving through one -- one way -- you'd miss the other. If this is your one shot at visiting this area, spend your money on collectivo, train, horse, bus, hiking boots; pack light and don't worry about a car, availability of gas, muddy roads, narco roadblocks. And IMO, El Fuerte to Los Mochis isn't that special if it's canyons you want to see.
