Hi all,
My husband & I are travelling in Mexico/Belize/Guatemala with two 16 yr old girls for 3 weeks beginning March 19. We'd love to see the spring equinox at Chichen Itza since it has so much
spiritual mythology about it. Can anyone recommend a (relatively) inexpensive hotel for us close to the ruins? We have done lots of backpack type travel so we aren't newbies, just haven't been to this area before.
Also, any other ideas for how to get there & where's the next best place (Mayan ruin) to visit would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

try the dolores alba chichen itza..is pretty good value..location is amazing..go for a swim in the cenote ik kil opposite the hotel...in the morning the hotel will drop you at the ruins..to come back just take one of the second class bus from ruins going towards cancun..there is bus stop opposite the hotel..will cost 5 pesos per person

You might want to think about reservations, as it can get very crowded for the equinox.

Hotel Dolores Alba

Also, down the road from Dolores Alba is Balancanche Cave with Mayan artifacts inside.

Dolores Alba will take you to the cave or Chichen Itza for free, but you are on your own to get back.

Regards,

Bob

Thanks, both of you for the recommendation! I went online & Delores Alba looks perfect for us!
Now for the next question~ hmmm.....does anyone know a (relatively) inexpensive way for us to get from the Cancun airport to the hotel? It says online it's a 2-1/2 hr drive but we weren't
planning to rent a car since we will be heading on to Belize & Guatemala after a few days.
Any buses? Or if not, anyone know how much is a taxi from the Cancun airport?
Thanks again!

I read that buses are plentiful and really cheap to the city...

The Delores Alba is a good choice if you can get a reservation. If not, or price is important, Try Hotel Zaci or Hotel Valladolid in Valladolid. Good colectivo service from there and good bus connections from Cancun.
