Hi everyone,
Me and two friends are planning a week in Mexico in June starting in Ciudad Juarez and travelling down to Zacatecas on the bus before travelling back up through Durango and Chihuahua. Is this a sensible proposition in a week? Does anyone know about the bus from Ciudad Juarez o Zacatecas? What times does it leave Ciudad Juarez and how long does it take to get to Zacatecas? How much does it cost?
Thanks a lot
Jon

Omnibus has the most departures. Estrella Blanca also has some. Cost is $860ish pesos. That sounds doable for a week, but make sure you spend the bulk of your time in Zacatecas- fabulous city. Stay at Hostel Villa Colonial.

From the main bus station in Juarez there are many southbound buses, about
one every half-hour. Of course, not all will go to Zacatecas. If you prefer to skip
the main station and leave from the U.S. side of the border there are also border
crossing buslines, like Americanos, which has its main station very close to the
downtown bridges linking central old El Paso to Juarez. This same street has
a number of other southbound buslines too.

For best use of time try to take a night bus. Day buses stop seemingly everywhere along the way, while night buses only make the major stops. Or do some asking and find out which will make the fewest stops. The desert there is amazingly boring, you will want to get through it as fast as possible. For an example if you go from Juarez to Torreon during the day it will take about 12 hours, at night it will be closer to 8-9 hours.
