Hey, just wondering if anyone on here knows of any budget accomodation (anything up to about 30euro for a twin/double room) near the airport in Mexico City? We're landing in the evening after a long flight and just want somewhere handy near the airport to get some rest before moving on. A friend mentioned a cheap hotel up the road from the airport but couldnt remember the name. Any help would be much appreciated, cheers.

This thread about Mexico City hotels might help you.
I suspect that the "Hotel Aeropuerto, at 380 Aeropurto Blvd," which is described as "convenient, inexpensive, and secure." may be what you're looking for.
I have no firsthand knowledge, however.

Hotel Aeropuerto is right about the limit of your budget, was 450 for one in January not sure what it is for two people. You'll get conflicting arguments about just walking over to the airport at night, I have walked over the pedestrian bridge to it with zero issues at 9pm. Longford will tell you that you probably will get robbed and shot doing it. You decide if you go there, might depend on what time you are arriving at.

Cheers guys that sounds perfect.
Will be arriving at 1920, allowing half an hour to get bags etc would it be be getting dark by then at the end of april? Would I be better just getting an official taxi?
One further query.. after a quick online search I repeatedly come upon the following details about the hotel
Boulevard Aeropuerto 380
Mexico City
785-6928
Would the 7 digits at the end be the phone number? Or a post code? As Im landing in the evening think Id rather book in advance if possible..
Cheers

We get regular reports from people who've stayed at the hotel before, none of them bad. The airport's inside the city, so you can really stay just about anywhere in Centro, if you want. Willy775 frequently tells people to do things that place them in harms way - sort of a sick joke from what I read - but decide for yourself; tourists have been assaulted walking the distance from the airport, and the local government urges people not to do that. There's a fool born every minute, so the old saying goes. My suggestion is that you stay somewhere in Centro.

By the way, that hotel near the airport is supposed to offer complimentary car service which will pick you up at the terminal building and/or take you back: why not call ahead and ask about it, if that place is where you want to stay. Taking a taxi to another area to stay, in Centro as one example, will cost about the peso equivalent of US$12 (each way).

Ya we were looking to stay as close to the airport as possible simply because we're catching a flight to Merida the following morning.. Great tip on the complimentary car service cheers.

As a lot of people in this board will tell you Longford is just a pompous p***y, but heck what do I know? If walking a street with mostly average lighting and about 50 average citizens at 9pm on a Sunday night is putting myself in harm's way I am guilty. Longford get it straight, there is an area north of the airport that is bad and has had some crime that has caught the attention of the local government. Mostly local people make their way over there to catch an "economy" taxi, you know about a third of the price of the authorized cabs, but not the regular street cabs. They are unsafe only because the thieves are out waiting for the unsuspecting to walk over to them. When you take the regular airport cabs you will see them just as you exit the airport. Just make a mental note never to walk up that way, even though you will see a lot of people walking to its taco stands and cabs.
It would be nice if the courtesy car comes, yes give them a call. But many people have claimed it "isn't available" according to the hotel operator and they will just ask you to walk. If you can't handle the risk of that to the point where you are walking breathless for 10 minutes, then maybe Mexico City just isn't for you. If that is the case then sleeping in the airport is probably your best option.

Willy, having stayed there, you reckon we'll need to book in advance or is it normally possible to wander in, bearing in mind we won't be arriving until about 20:00. Also just in reference to my earlier post (#3) can anyone tell me if that number listed would be the phone number or postcode? Cant seem to locate a number or email for them anywhere...
