I'm flying into Cancun this Sat. 24th. Should arrive at 3 pm. Will make my way straight to Playa del Carmen from the airport. I haven't made any reservations for a place to stay, hoping I'll find something when I get there. Is this wise?? I'm trying to keep a low budget and will be looking for a clean friendly & safe hostel (female traveling on my own). Should I book something before I leave?? Any recommendations of good places to stay in PLD?? Wot should I do apart from diving while I'm there??

Thanx guys!!

Occupancy is down in PdC, so you should be able to find something quite easily. I wish I had the info on hostels, but hopefully some one else will.

I don't know your interests, but reading over some pages of posts on Playa would be helpful to get ideas. As for diving, if you haven't already made arrangements, I'd recommend Abyss from what I've heard. You can contact them on 1st Avenue between 12th and 14th Street. They are also in Tulum at the entrance to the ruins at Hotel El Crucer.

For another inexpensive accommodation option with a dive shop on site, check out Casa Tucan on Calle 4 between Av 10 and 15 - www.casatucan.de (tel 984 873 0283). As well as rooms for around $50, they also have cabanas with shared bathroom for use by divers.

If you haven't been to the area, don't miss cenote diving. And check out playa.info - that site has tons of good info about the area.

We stayed at “Maya Brick “ hotel in PDC. We got a room on the upper floor , overlooking the charming pool. I highly recommend this hotel if you want a budget room but with all the comforts in Playa. AC , hot water , balcony with pleasant view of the pool and the gardens , very clean and although it’s on the 5th avenue , it’s quiet and safe.

My concern, too!!

I'll also be travelling alone and would like a place that's safe and affordable (better less than $35).

I'm heading towards PdC directly from Cancun airport March 6 evening and still haven't figured out where to stay and whether I should book now! I had checked with Hotel Alux but none of their single rooms are available at that date. big sigh/// :'(

Returned from there a couple weeks ago--Every hotel in Playa has Vacancy signs hanging outside. You shouldn't have any problem finding a cheap place.

Hi Xinloi:

Can you make any recommendations in where you stayed in PdC? I'm arriving there at night, so not sure if there would be nice and affordable (around of below $35) small hotels around the bus station where I'll get off.

thanks,
