can anyone tell me how much a taxi costs from the airport in havana to veradero
I was quoted between 80 and 110 CUC when I was in the Miramar district of Havana, which is very close to the airport. From Veradero back to Havana I had an offer of 40 CUC. In both cases I ended up taking the bus. | 1
In March I caught a taxi FROM Varadero to Miramar--via Down Town, for $20 CUC. This was a shared cab with 3 other tourists who stayed downtown. That means the total cost for the cab was $80. When I returned to Varadero, I caught a cab to the airport from the Viazul station for $10 CUC--with only two other passengers---that means the total cost was $30 CUC on April 5th. From my experience, I think it is easy to find a few other tourists to share the cost from Varadero, and probably the cab can be bargained for, for as little as $60 CUC. It all depends on how busy things are. Absolutely, the cost TO the Airport or Varadero proper, is about the same as the Viazul bus, if you catch a cab at the Viazul station, with other travellers. Otherwise, take the Viazul bus, I think it is only $11CUC. Also, there are many other smaller buses to various hotels at the Varadero airport, that a single person can get a ride on for usually less than $20 CUC. However, after re-reading your posting, this may not be much help, as you are asking about FROM Jose Marti TO Varadero. Cabs at Jose Marti seem to be more expensive, but I can't imagine you couldn't find one for $80 CUC or less, as long as you didn't take the first price offerred. Also much better if you can find another traveller to share costs with. | 2
$80 from Varadero airport to Havana is the "standard fare". It is often cheaper to get a taxi from Havana airport to Varadero since there will be one or two that have just dropped off a fare and are returning to Varadero. $60 seems to be the norm, from what I have heard. | 3
The prices quoted by #3 are the ones I know of, too. Legal or illegal seemed to make no difference when I asked. | 4
