Travel from Cuba

Country forums / Cuba / Cuba

Hey all
I'm planning on traveling. From Cuba to Colombian via Miami. Now I have my American ESTA check and used my flight bookers visa requirement thing which doesn't trace any additions to it.
But given some of the discussions on here I'm concerned I'll run into issues at American customs.
Can anyone help me out?
Remember traveling from Cuba not to cuba

But given some of the discussions on here I'm concerned I'll run into issues at American customs.

Can you help out by telling your nationality and what discussions / issues you may be referring to?

You have not seen any "discussions" on this forum regarding "issues" at American customs. You may have seen other nervous newbies with non-US passports, like yourself, asking IF there are issues, and many more experienced responders reassuring them NO. You may also have seen, here and on other Cuba forums, travelers with non-US passports who have already traveled one way into the US from Cuba saying that they had no problems.

Like I said I presume there won't be any issues but I had seen topics with commenters warning not to fly via US so wanted to double check

If you have not already done so, the US airline may require that you sign a declaration regarding your OFAC status.

In Miami, you will use an automated kiosk. The guy at passport control might ask you why you went to Cuba - just as they can ask you why you went anywhere.

You might not even see anyone from customs.

(Though it does seem odd going to Miami if you want to get to Colombia.)

As long as you have your ESTA there will be no issues. People try to avoid flying via USA whever possible, due to the beaurocracy and time consuming immigration and security procedures. I imagine those are the discussions you refer to.

If you are smart, you will go from Cuba to Colombia nonstop to Bogota on Avianca or to anywhere in Colombia on COPA, with a stop to change planes in Panama City. COPA has several flights to Panama City everyday. It is a very well run airline.
