Swift code banking # for Cuban aidCountry forums / Cuba / Cuba
SWIFT transfer code to facilitate donations to an account at the government Banco Financiera Internacional, U.S. humanitarians should think twice. http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/americas/cuba/article174931996.html
Thanks. I can't see many individuals wanting to send international wire transfers to a Cuban government account. But perhaps I am wrong. ING has refused to deal with anything Cuba-related since they were forced to shut their office in Cuba and close Netherlands Caribbean Bank which they had as a joint venture with Cuban companies - about 8 years ago or so. Those wanting to give to an NGO, see for example the link in Conner Gorry's latest blog. | 1
The article does not suggest this is a bad idea or a scam.... Just that American and certain foreign banks have gotten huge fines for facilitating these types of transactions. I'm confident my Canadian bank would have no issue if i decided to contribute. | 2
I agree, just the opposite for everyone in the world except Americans subject to OFAC regs. | 3
I agree. I am just saying that I suspect that most individuals would find a different way to donate anyway. | 4
Here is that link. I contributed via that link and no agents from the US government have appeared on my doorstep with a pair of handcuffs. https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/mediccglobal?code=Website+Donations | 5
