Cuba in September, a good idea or not?

Hi All,

We're thinking of spending 2 weeks in Cuba over September which I know is the hurricane/wet season. Do you think this is a good idea or not? Unfortunately this is the only time we can get there and its a place we have always wanted to visit. Is the weather OK temperature wise when its not raining?

I was in Cuba (Havana, Varadero, etc) last September. It was very hot and very humid (and I am accustomed to visiting hot, tropical locations). I found it exhausting to walk around. I didn't see as much as I thought I would, and I spent a lot more on air conditioned taxis than I planned. There was no rain in the week I was there.

September is not as hot as August.

What sort of visit are you planning ?

I think it's a good idea, just after the tourism crunch of the summer, there's always a risk of a hurricane.Cuba is a big island and rarely is the entire island affected by a hurricane, if one even strikes.

If you are mobile enough, you can scoot out of the way of a hurricane by moving away from it's path. What part of the island were you planning on visiting? September will be bloody hot no matter where you are in Cuba. The heat should be your main concern for now, not a whether you'd be chancing a hurricane.

Not yet sure what part of Cuba we want to see as I have only just starting thinking of Cuba as an option. We would definitely spend a few days in Havana though.

You should hope for rain, it cools things down. If you are in a hurricane it is rain with very high winds that blow more than your hat off, like the roof of your hotel or casa.
