This has been answered dozens of times already on this forum.
Anyone, with any passport, departing from the US directly to Cuba, falls under US law.
You need to choose one of the 12 OFAC reasons for travel, which the airline will record.
You need a pink visa/tourist card to enter Cuba from the US.
It matters not which reason you choose. Nobody cares what is your reason. Do not admit that you are a tourist. You need to lie, but remember governments lie about everything, especially in the USA.
For your own piece of mind contact the airline flying you from Florida to Cuba, they will give you the exact answer and will either sell you the tourist card or direct you to a company that does.

I asked now because it seems to change fast these days.
These days? Afaik nothing has changed since since October of 2016 (It's now June of 2017.) when Obama allowed individual travel on a general license.
Certainly many posts online deal with these changes.
Keep an eye on the news in case Trump decides to change policies before your departure date, but so far, nothing.

Reports from travelers change. ;-)
Just wanted the latest news,really.
So try reading first and noting dates of posts before asking. It's called due diligence.
The latest news is that people are waiting to see what moves Trump makes and when.
In fact, the main extension of the general licenses was January 2015, with the removal of the requirement that "people to people" visits be part of organised tours in March 2016 - but even before that individuals could travel on their own under the other categories such as "support for the Cuban people".
