Hi!

I've only found references for Santiago here that are ten years old. Does anyone have anything current? I want to support individuals and not go to a language school. The language homestays advertised don't seem that homey to me. I haven't found but one reference for Matanzas.

Thank you for any assistance!

Those two cities are strikingly different in almost every way. I would suggest that you decide which one you are most likely to enjoy. Once there, look for a casa--move around a bit if you must-- until you find a casa where you are comfortable. THEN arrange for lessons. Almost any casa host will know someone who offers lessons. You can arrange for a couple of lessons, and if the teacher works for you, cut a deal for more. Or if you don't care for the teacher, ask your host to find someone else. It's really amazingly easy, and not really necessary to go to a place that advertises itself as a "language homestay."

Thanks ttjpdo!

I DO know they are radically different vibes!!! Struggling with the decision. There is something attractive about each to me and I am split equally. So access to quality Spanish lessons was going to be the clincher. I'm a little wary that some casa owners might suggest anyone who knows a little English or a friend who thinks they can do it but doesn't have what it takes. I'm here to hear from fellow travelers if they have experienced a good private and have contact info so I don't have to do that trial and error search that takes precious time.

Santiago is alot bigger and busier/hectic than Mantanzas, Agree that finding someone to help you with spanish will be easy-peasy. Don't know if someone darn good 'n qualified will be so though.

Santiago and Mantanzas are 800 km apart btw.

I've been to both so I know. Again, I am here to see if anyone has a personal recommendation and contact for someone who can actually teach well. Thanks!
