So now you are considering SEA ?
Don't bypass Cambodia, easy VOA, and spend a few days going around the spectacular Angor Wat.

So are you sure that Germany allows transit without the need for a visa as I do know that a visa to Germany for a Cuban is quite difficult?

Transit without visa for up to 24 hours applies to several locations in Europe. This is strictly for waiting for a plane, you cannot leave the departure area. Useful if you want give Moscow a wide berth because you're still not sure if it's in Europe or not :-D

So that's 2 votes for Siem Reap!

The shortest flight takes half a day door to door
Cuban resorts are God's Waiting Rooms
Any trip of less than a month is not worth getting out of bed for
Anybody relying on a single source of funds whilst travelling is an idiot
*Millions of Americans have visited Cuba already, but everyone arriving this week is under the illusion that he or she is the first one to discover Cuba and the last one to see it before it is no longer an independent country*

Thanks (and I may not have been to Moscow but I do know where it is LOL).
I should have added that's how my wife negotiated Chile - one occasion 18 hours in the airport all because they wouldn't give her a visa considering her a flight risk when she had residency in Oz. Really! I mean who would prefer Chile to Oz (to live in permanently)!?

Terry - you don't like Trinidad and Tobago either ?

Nope. Not in the slightest for reasons I won't bother going into here.

Vietnam is a possibility. Havana - Hanoi is only about $300 more than a Havana - Moscow ticket but requires a 9 hour layover in the Moscow airport PLUS a 12 hour Aeroflot direct flight. The layover and long direct flight are more important than the cost. Looking for opinions re: Vietnam. John? Terry?

That's actually my #1 option right now. The length/cost of the flights is offset by how inexpensive Vietnam itself is, and it certainly has the pizazz factor in spades. As I might have mentioned to you I have lots of recent experience in Vietnam; I know the trip could be very easily a mind-blowing experience for a Cuban.

I am researching Trinidad and Tobago.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time. I haven't been in years, but it was very underwhelming back when I visited. I did get a very nice pistol from a would be mugger in Port of Spain though who was so stoned he could barely stand unassisted. That was the most fun I had there.

Good luck with your research, Bob.

Cheers,
Terry

Interested to know the outcome of this - where did you end up going?
I know someone who is applying for a tourist visa to Nicaragua and they asked for a bank account but no specific amount, all of what you mentioned above plus a medical and antecedentes penales certificate, and a ton of into about the accompanying traveler. Crazy. He has an interview booked .. i'll update in case anyone is interested.

We ended up going to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Hanoi.

Russia not recommended at it was cold in June, expensive, and full of people who never smile. But Russia could be the place for you if you have enthusiasm to see unlimited numbers of old cathedrals and museums.

Hanoi is highly recommended. And is dirt cheap.

Independently verify anything important that a stranger tells you on the internet, even this advice.
