Hi.
Has anyone been to Playa La Herradura on the north coast in the Las Tunas province?
Comments, worth going there if I'm close by?
Is there any Casa Particulares that you can recommend?

I have been there a few times. Fifteen years ago, it had two gorgeous beaches--one in a tiny little horseshoe bay (la heradura), the other along the open ocean. Then maybe eight years ago, a hurricane washed away most of the sand along the ocean ocean, leaving a very rocky shoreline. However, the beach in the little bay was intact, and still lovely. There are at lest half a dozen casas there, most listed here: http://www.cubacasas.net/cities/playa_la_herradura/
As for whether it's worth going, that depends on what you're looking for. It's a tiny village without much by way of a town center, zero to do except the beach, watching sunsets, and hanging with the locals. The biggest problem is transport; you have to have your own wheels (bike, taxi, or rental car) to get to/from. About 10 km up the road is Las Bocas, a slightly larger village which has nicer beaches, one on the open ocean, one on the inlet to the bays. It has a few casas, too, and a bar.

Been there. Nice but as ttjpdo said it's not easily accessible. Water in the horseshoe bay is crystal clear and now I guess there are more casas. We took a 'taxi' from Gibara some years ago following the shoreline and every km or so the driver had to ask for directions. Nice to chill out, avoid the crowds or just visit, like we did, for the day.
We were just there two weeks ago. We came by bikes so transportation wasn't an issue. Accommodation was. We arrived before noon and got the last room in the village. http://www.villaholguinrent.com/las-tunas/playa-la-herradura/hostal-la-estrella/ (good restaurant). It was a weekend and Cubans holiday at this beach so most of the tourists/visitors are Cuban. We had to switch to another casa the next night as the room we had found was booked.
It's a small village with quite a few casas and a couple of restaurants. Lovely horseshoe bay for swimming. Nothing to do but chill out and relax and go to the beach. It's very quiet. We did a day ride up to La Boca, I think there are only 2 or 3 casas there.
The entire province of Las Tunas is a very, very quiet out of the way place with not much to do relative to the rest of the island,so plan accordingly.
