I've flown into Cienfuegos one time with $15,000. and another time with $12,000. dollars in my pocket. But that was 5 years ago.

I know the experts say anything over $10,000. must be declared on arrival - but I didn't bother nor was it detected through security.

And neither was checked my friend Johnny who regularly flew down into Vuba with 20 - 30 thousand cash - to purchase. Art to export.

Not that you should do this nor is it recommended - only saying.

Not helpful I now surmise.

The issue Cactusbite is how you transport the cash. I assume you and your pal had the cash on your body, right? Having it in a couple of cargo pockets is perfectly doable because it's invisible to the body scanners and so long as you don't draw attention to it you can saunter right through.

Having it safely locked in your carry-on luggage is dangerous though because depending on how it's packed it can be clearly visible on the x-ray. I personally know of one Japanese diplomat would had thousands and thousand of dollars confiscated because he didn't declare the amount over $10K. He lost all the dough right on the spot and his embassy was powerless.

Aduana must have thrown one hell of a party with their cut...

Cheers,
Terry

That's exactly right - on body divided among several cargo pant Velcro patch front pockets.

I won't be doing that anymore and neither is Johnny - well him cuz he died of brain cancer 4 years ago.

By the way - I thought that aduana say you should declare over $ 5,000.

Just declare it. You would not want to risk losing it.
