A recent thread where the poster got the same exchange at the airport as in town Trip Report

Quote

#9, .... I did get a receipt and it did look like I got the right amount. In fact, I had no problems with any of the currency transactions I made at Cadecas during my whole trip. I knew in advance how much I should be getting, I asked for a receipt, and I carefully counted my money at the window.

tropicaltraveller,

Your apologist, ass-kissing support of stupid government policies, and slander of honest Cubans, keeps you firmly in place as one of the most illogical contributors on this forum.

Please, never stop posting. We need the laughs.

Cheers,
Terry

“stupid government policies”

Poor Terry: did the nasty Cuban government do something you don’t like? Naughty them …. I don’t ‘support’, whatever that means, the Cuban government, and I would never, ever ‘slander honest Cubans’ – but what’s amazing about this board is how swiftly you misrepresent other posters to score points. Plus your dismal sense of humour. That last line of yours (‘we need the laughs’) isn’t funny Terry. It wasn’t funny even when we were twelve years old. Meanwhile (my last attempt at dragging this argument back on course), any thoughts on why a shock-horror five percent exchange rate at the airport should matter that much to tourists with so much money to spend? And yes, that includes you. (Cue protestations of poverty).

"... any thoughts on why a shock-horror five percent exchange rate at the airport should matter that much to tourists with so much money to spend?..."

As has been explained ad nauseum to you, the 5% rate change is immaterial. The fact that it appears the Cuban government is mow treating airport CADECAs different than the hundreds of other CADECAs on the Island is what's important, not the money. Sorry if that's still too complicated for you to understand.

And yes, you slander honest Cubans every time you support scammers and criminals, because of your opinion that, "tourists are the thieves."

Cheers,
Terry

Nothing can say it better than CT's statement. Give it up and stop apologizing, or is it shilling, for this failed regime?

There is no argument to drag back on course - at least none that you have made. There are NO fair exchange rates in Cuba, made at market mechanisms, as elsewhere. There is simply an overpriced, overvalued currency made available on a take it or leave it basis. Each CUC obtained by visitors is taxed at 11-13 % plus 10% more, if one is foolish enough to use USD.

The contention is being made that an additional 5% is being ripped-off at the airport Cadeca. This is no individual employee scam, rather a state sanctioned rip-off. Cuba is really stretching it here. More and more visitors - aren't! They exercise their choice and go elsewhere.

Cuba is simply stealing itself out of it's market.

You aren't helping! Fortunately, CT and others are not intimidated by minor spirits such as you possess. As for humour, do you have a sense of that?

I doubt it! Go away you pathetic little person. We are tired of you!

CheersTerry is ALWAYS whining that we stop any discussion of currency transaction costs; it taxes his small (or is it 'alcohol-soaked'?) brain. But he absolutely cannot resist the urge to uselessly chime in, "What, that trifle?" as if any rate difference was immaterial.

Weird, his hyperventilating here.

EA and tropicaltraveller.

Now there's a great team for logical, adult discussion.

“The fact that it appears the Cuban government is mow treating airport CADECAs different than the hundreds of other CADECAs on the Island is what's important, not the money”

Ah I see! I finally get it! It’s the principle not the money. So presumably you don’t care what the exchange rates are – how about a twenty percent hike?? Of a fifty? – so long as all CADECAs offer the same. That makes sense Terry. What a wise man you are. Angry too, of course. Not as angry as Davfitz, the board misogynist, but we’ll get onto that another time.

“Cuba is simply stealing itself out of it's market.”
No it isn’t, you idiot. Tourists numbers are holding steady, all-inclusives are actually up. The only people bothered by this are guys, because it gives you something to rant about – which in turn says a lot about you and your lives.

Anyway, for the last time: I DON’T support the Cuban government, and I DON’T think tourists are thieves and I DON’T approve of thieves or conmen. To say you can understand why someone does something is not to approve of it. Or has no-one taught you this screamingly obvious fact?

"... Ah I see! I finally get it! It’s the principle not the money..."

Why didn't you "finally get it" way back in Post #21? Have you finally actually read the thread now? Thanks.

"... So presumably you don’t care what the exchange rates are..."

As already stated, way back in Post #21, I couldn't care less what the exchange rates are. This thread is not about exchange rates, it's about investigating whether there's been a policy change regarding airport CADEDAs. How many times does that have to be repeated?

"... and I DON’T think tourists are thieves..."

Then you shouldn't have posted, "tourists are the thieves" on the Varadero Airport scam thread. Thanks for finally retracting that silly statement.

Cheers,
Terry

Oh Lord… nuances and subtleties are entirely lost on you, aren’t they Terry? Is it because you’re stupid, or because (as usual) you’re just hearing what you want to hear and then scoring points off it? Once again: Not ALL tourists are thieves, but some certainly are. What would you call a tourist who visits Burma, against the wishes of its imprisoned leader, and stays in a hotel built by slave labour on land stolen from locals? Sex tourists in Cambodia and Thailand? Got a word for those people, Terry? Or maybe they’re just exercising their right to be treated well because they’re used to certain standards in the service industries.... On a broader level: if you're disadvantaged and living in a poor society and you're visited by cash-heavy foreigners who throw money around, none of which you actually get to see, how would you feel? To many people in the the developing world, tourists ARE thieves. Didn't you know that? If you didn't you must be the kind of rube who believes everything the cabbie or waiter he's just about to over-tip tells him. In your case, that probably explains it.
