tropicaltraveller,
Climb down off your soap box, un-knot your panties, and re-read the original post and my comment: Cuba has always kept its CADECA rates the same. Even though the exchange rates themselves are ridiculous, it made no difference whether the CADECA was at an airport, in a hotel, or on a street corner.
If they really have upped the airport CADECA exchange rate by 5% over all the other CADECAs, then this is important news. Not because of the extra cost, but because of the principle.
Now, get over yourself, and have a mojito...
Cheers,
Terry

"this is important news"
No it isn't, for the reaons I explained. Why don't you try responding to what's actually being said? And from the sound of it, it's you that needs a mojito.

Well if it's true that the 2 Cadecas in the baggage claim area have been closed, and you now have to wait until you clear customs to go to one in the "arrivals hall", how then are arriving passengers able to pay the aduana import taxes and "overweight charges"?

tropicaltraveller,
The question raised in the OP is numbingly simple: Has the Cuban government decided to allow the airport CADECAs to become independent from the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of other CADECAs on the Island?
Your constant tirade of, "it's OK for people to rip you off, so long as they're really, really poor" is a racist attitude that's a slap in the face of honest Cubans. Your support of thieves and scammers - as long as they're only stealing from tourists - is the rant of a holier-than-thou Trustafarian, not a rational adult.
Any decent Cuban would be disgusted with your low opinion of them.
Cheers,
Terry

As usual, no response to the question at hand, just more personal abuse. And as usual, it’s so revealing. Cheers Terry, your postings on this site, including the ones on this thread, often seem characterised by anger (foolishly perceived by others as Olympian detachment). Now you’re extending your word-length it’s clear just how wound up you are. But by what? In any case, could you please stop taking it out on me.

"... As usual, no response to the question at hand..."
Huh?
tropicaltraveller, the only, "question at hand" is whether the Cuban government is treating airport CADECAs differently. Period. David has kindly offered to confirm the observations in the Original Post.
Your "contributions" to this thread (and to this forum, thus far) do nothing except to demean honest Cubans.
Cheers,
Terry

Landed in Havana April 7th. The CADECA is indeed outside. The space formerly occupied by the CADECA is now used for reporting lost luggage.

Say what?
You either do not know how to read, or you know nothing about Cuba, as Terry gives some of the best advice on this site.

#27, no worries, my question could have been worded differently ;-)
#28, sounds like you were there at the same time as the OP, there were two CADECA in the arrivals/luggage area, one used for lost luggage, any idea what the other was being used for and how much did you pay exchange?
#23 brings up an interesting point.

I can’t believe this thread has been going on for so long. What I originally said – before Terry decided to drag in personal abuse which, you’ll notice, bears no reference to any remarks I’ve made above – was that this stuff DOESN’T MATTER. The Cuban government can do what it likes: package tourists (from which the government gets its money) are not bothered. I, and most independent travellers to Cuba, are also not bothered. The only people who are bothered are the regulars on this board, in their usual role as guardians of all things Cuban. But these are people who cannot think of Cuba in any terms other than their own: how it relates to them, how cheap or expensive it is, who’s ripping them off, etc. What or where Cuba might be in itself as a country in the world is not relevant. You think I’m making a big deal out of nothing? Think of Spain, one of the most interesting and vital countries on the planet, but until twenty years ago written off as a backwater and talked about only in terms of its beaches, tourist facilities. Would anyone on the Spain TT board dare to question the Spanish government’s right to alter its exchange rates? You see where I’m coming from? (that’s a trick question, Terry. Go and have a lie-down). This site is unlike any other TT message board, in that it’s dominated by a small group of self-serving individuals (mostly male and hopeless - look at the original responses to Cazkitten’s questions about casa security) who run it as their own domain. As a frequent traveller to Cuba and a regular on these boards I object to this – and for as long as you continue to annoy me with you know-it-all (yet actually know-very-little) posturing, I’m going to be in your face. As Terry would put it, Period.
