Thanks to all people who responded to my previous posts. All information is very useful.
I know it has been discussed but I am going to Cuba from America.
I read that I can't use my american credit card...
does anyone know what other partical options I have beside converting my dollars to Euro in Mexico and carrying Euro around?
For example to pay for hotels, taxi, restuarants, etc...
Thanks.

Hi, when you arrive Cuba you have to change euros in "convertible pesos" the official money in Cuba. You can exchange in airports, hotels, house's change, and banks.
Have a nice trip!

If in New York, exchange US$ for either Canadian or Euros at BHD, 43 W. 33 St, Manhattan. Do not exchange at the place on the corner of 33rd and 5th. Different rates; worse.

why take a beating twice on exchange. just take USD. all currency is changed into USD before being changed to CUC's you will be paying two commisions needlessly. you will receive 82 CUC's for 100 USD cash. take US cash
coulee

OP
I assume that you mean that you are ging to Cuba from somewhere on the (North?) American continent, 'cuz you ain't goin' from 'merica - USA!
Of course youmight be able to use your US Visa card for your purchases ie. cigars etc, but not for cash advances.
If, in fact, you are going to Cuba from Mexico, why yet another currency conversion? Your transaction from USD to Mexican pesos to Euros will be self defeating.
A little more precision in language and openness on your part will help people here to better assist you

When I used to go to Cuba, it was always much better to change into Canadian or Euros before going. I received about 88 or 89 CUC for the original $100 US. I would have received only 80 CUC for that amount of US$ This was based on either changing the US at the New York exchage place I mentioned above, or at the RBC in Nassau.

I am an american citizen and live in california. I am going to cuba and I know I can't use my credit cards. So, should I just bring american dollars and convert them to CUC or should I go thru the trouble of converting them to euro and back to CUC?
Also, how do I book hotel since I can't use my credit card? Can I book it from jamaica?

Last answer, do the math, if you can get EURO or CDN for 2-4% then you'll save 6-8% on the exchange to CUC, on a couple of thousand it's worth it.
You can book and pay for hotels through any Canadian agency ie Nash Travel or Netssa or through Divermex out of Mexico and Vacacionar Travel out of Panama
