At the end of the Cienfuegos Malecon, during the night is a wide brightly light board with a large figure of Beny.
Below it reads "Cienfuegos - es la cuidad que más me gusta a mi"
About 40 km NE you can visit his birthplace Town Isabel de Lajas. Arriving through a dusty road - cervezas frías go down nicely.

What I like about Villa Clara is people seem to be what you see is what you get. I feel like people there are more authentic and say what they mean.
Entirely different culture from what many of you are used to
Candy: you nicely summed up 72 posts in one sentence.
Interesting, you know what I say,how can you tell when a Cuban is lying, when the Cuban's lips start moving, :)) LOL!!!
Actually, more true than funny.
If her parents are ok with her spending a WHOLE week with you... why don't you take her to Havana, where nobody knows her and you can both enjoy outdoor activities?
I told a chica, "You are not telling me the truth". Her response was, " Si, lo invento".
"Yes, I invented it.", but she didn't lie. That would be a "mentira".

That's a good idea. I was thinking Cienfuegos instead of Havana, though. Is it conceivable that someone in Santa Clara has never heard of El Nicho? She is warming to the idea of going to El Nicho and staying in Manicaragua, especially if the driver serves as a lookout. For some reason, she's incredibly skittish about "la Policia". I still don't understand why she quit her job as a cleaning girl, it was great "cover" and an excellent way to be discreet. I'm OK with what else is going on in her life as long as it doesn't put me in jeopardy such as involvement with drugs or something like that.

It's true wherever there is poverty and disparity; in the CDN city where I live, when some small boys are asked what they want to be when they grow up, they say that they want to be one of the men standing on the street corners.
Yes, completely accurate and true, for those that are not looking to leave the country. There is some/a lot overlap between the two.
On another note......Many years ago, my wife was talking to a14 year old in her barrio and asked her, what she wanted to be when she grew up. She replied, like her neighbor, a jinetera. She has nice clothes, money, things and always going out to nice places.
