I'm in, Pepin. Fidel will make his dramatic return on May Day. But the bet has to be for something more tangible than a ride on your Ferry or a week at the Ranch equivalent.

as this is all guess work, I will have a go to!

Fidel will attend.
He will announce his retirement and go into 'godfather' mode
The military will be everywhere for months to come with a crackdown on corruption accompanying it.
Food, the #1 cuban pre-occupation will suddenly be more available.
The peso will be revalued allowing a slight increase in the affordability of things purchased with it.
The fidel speeches will be replaced with another novella probably a steamy brasilian one.
Everyone will relax and continue doing nothing worthwhile.

who says nada es facile!!!????

My sentiments exactly, Rosa! As you've reiterated here, and on another thread, earlier, there needs to be more entrepreneureal opportunities. The government needs to break out of its rigid economic box and be more creative in allowing and encouraging enterprise. The constant hassling of small business just encourages disrespect and contempt for the law and, in the end, is always unsuccessful anyway--sorta like our own perpetual "war" on drugs. Only a few months after the social workers were put to work pumping gas, for example, I witnessed my "illegal" taxi-driver purchase all the gas he needed for our trip from _____ to _____ __ __. If need be, these businesses can be taxed--but not so that they are strangled in the cradle, but enough so that they, too, pay their fair share for socialized medicine, education and other benefits guaranteed by the Revolution. I have a sense that a new generation of more pragmatic leaders will come to the fore and be able to do this. After all, Cuba is no longer alone, and besides, the neo-liberal model of capitalism so touted in Latin America the 1970's and 1980's has utterly failed, otherwise the other revolutions would not be sprouting up all over.

In a way I kinda hope I lose our bet Yucca. That way I will have to send you a brand new Canadian $20.00 bill with a REAL Queen on it.... and not the kind of queen you guys find on Calle Ocho. HeHeHe!!! Besides, in two more years, my $20 will be worth MORE than your $20.00 once again. (and rightfully so) :)
