$60 appears to be what they are "charging".... from a number of posts elsewhere. All in all, better than the $100 they were charging when VCR's were legal to bring in. years ago.

Why smoke good cigars when there are great cigars.

Caney.......what kind of DVDs were they, i.e. portable or tabletop, that "sailed through" and was that in Havana?

What would happen if you refused to pay the $60?

Amiga Caney, personally I have taken portable DVDs players and DVD machines to Cuba without problems nor been taxed and in one report I explained how I did it inside a bicycle box. The op in this case packed it in his carry-on bag ensuring 100% inspection the minute he passes through the door from immigration. They always scan the carry-on bags through the x-ray machine and any electronics they ask you to open for a hand inspection. The checked-in luggage are scanned but sometime missed and allowed to pass through, just a matter of luck and who is on duty. Price wise I can buy a name brand in Toronto for $99 can plus $60cuc taxes is still cheaper than in Cuba.

I have been told by the people that I send suff down to Cuba with that it is $60cuc if you have it in carry on and $40cuc if it is in your check-in. I had to pay the $40cuc extra plus the mules fee to send one just a while back. I'm going o bring one down next time and I'll see but I'm taking the lense out just in case they want to take it.

It used to be like that but only during the first two weeks, NOT ANYMORE.

Just back from Cuba on a direct Miami-Habana flight, found customs officials VERY relaxed, took 2 DVD players that i bought at Brandsmart here in Miami for $29 each, had to pay $60 CUC/ each, total $122 ($120+$2 "fee"=$122CUC).
