Hi Caney;
I should have done exactly like you did, had I known. However, I stepped into the office and they sold us a ticket for $1.CUC each. I still have my receipt. I did go into that office with the specific purpose of reporting the scam at the side entrance. By the way, the scammers wanted $5 CUC from each one of us.......

Maybe it's just me but the air pollution was noticeably worse in the late 90's in Havana. I couldn't spend more than a few hours in Vedado without getting a headache from the fumes.
I agree about metered taxis. You almost never get a better negotiated price, especially from the airport. The gypsy guys have gone nuts over the last couple of years, usually wanting the same, or more, than what it would cost to take a "real" taxi. I don't bother with them anymore.

Caney,
there is an entrance fee (1CUC) payable at the right, just as you enter the cemetery. Supposingly you have to pay another CUC for using a camera. The guy there often frees you off the extra CUC, provided you don't ask for a receipt.
You can avoid all that if you don't look too much of a tourist or if you say you are visiting a tomb of a family member. The cemetery has its own guides who -when not bored- can be very informative.
The entrance fee, ticket booth etc has existed at least for 10 years, probably much more.
Oh well, there you go... I don't "look too much of a tourist", I was visiting a tomb of a family member... and I walked with my Cuban friend and didn't see/realize any booth ticket at all! (and I wont from now on, lol!)

Well Caney, I DO look like a tourist (Canadian one, no less) but did not get hassled when I took photos at Colon Cemetary. I did not notice the booth until I left the cemetary and left them some money for 'repairs' to the crypts and head stones that are so badly crumbling in that beautiful cemetary.
