Hi all,
As you might remember (or not), my plan is to go to Cuba this summer and spend three weeks in Havana for classes in Spanish and salsa and then travel round the island. The idea is to leave in the end of June and return in the beginning of August, but I haven't booked a ticket yet (but need to do this soon!)
I would LOVE to celebrate carnival in Cuba, but I understand the dates vary every year and carnival is not celebrated in every city on the same dates.
Now my question is: how do I find out where to go when? Is Santiago the best place to celebrate carnival?? And when is it carnival there? It would be a pity if I had just missed it; so if you have any information on this topic, please let me know!
Thank you,
Margje

Marje: Look a few posts below you to "Road Trip Vs. Santiago Carnival," and check out the responses, particularly #4, by Yorgos. Santiago is probably the largest Carnival celebration in Cuba, but sometimes you can have great fun in small towns--if you get lucky and end up in one on the date they happen to be celebrating. (Equally true of lesser-known events such as International Women's Day.) The poster Truetown, who is Cuban and in Cuba, might know the dates of this year's Carnival. I do not.
