hi - My parents had booked a tour group trip to Cuba from Taiwan, arriving next week (9/27) months ago. I'm trying to find out the condition on the ground on whether it makes sense for them to proceed with the trip. Their tour operator have been quiet and have not seem to indicate cancelation of the trip.
Any information on current conditions would be appreciated.
It all depends on where they are going. Realize Cuba is 1.250 km long so places in the east are unscathed while some in the west are demolished.
Hard to say as the Cuban government isn't known for being very forthcoming with information, especially bad news.
Where are they going ? Cuba is a big island.

X-Glider, It depends on what part of the island you are planning to visit. Almost all the resorts along the north coast (Cayos Coco, Guillermo, Santa Maria, and especially Varadero were hit very hard, with most of them sustaining lots of damage. Havana, too, where the main part of the city was flooded, many, many downed trees and power lines, and large sections of the city without electricity.
However, if you were planning a trip to the eastern end of the island (Santiago) or the main offshore resort island in the south (Cayo Largo), the hurricane didn't do much more than dump a lot of rain, so as far as I know, things are more or less normal there.

There's little coming out of Cayo Santa Maria yet - but everywhere else there are people in communication.
