Hi,

I am going to Cuba in November and am looking for a quiet beautiful beach to go to.
I don't want to go to Varadero and am a bit limited on time, so I was hoping to find somewhere within reasonable proximity of Trinidad. I was looking at Cayo Guillermo, but all the accommodation seems to be big resort style hotels which is really not my thing. Can anyone recommend somewhere around that area?
I would be more than happy with a shack on the beach or a case particular.
thanks

Do a search with "Playa Ancón"

In November most beaches will be quiet as that is low season !

There is a beach town named Playa Baracoa(not the one 900 miles east in Guantanamo area) that is a few miles west of Marina Hemingway. There are casa particulares to rent and a couple beachfront restaurant/bars where the locals hang out.

I really like Playa Baracoa although I only got here on day trips. It is only two 20 CUP taxi particular rides with a quick transfer in Playa to get from there to the Capitolio area. It is like going back 50 years in time. Only downside is most of the beach area is rocky. It does not seem that the sandy beach area gets too many visitors.

I have spent a number of hours in the ranchons a little way back from the shore in (Playa) Baracoa - when I lived in Santa Fe it was very close. I wouldn't have thought of that as a beautiful beach - though it is a nice place to hang out.

As mentioned, I doubt that beach will be over-crowded in November.

Playa Baracoa used to have a nice beach, but recent hurricanes have left is more rock than sand. But yes, there are casas with rooms for rent just across the boulevard from that very rocky beach. And of course, since it's west of Havana, it's nowhere near Trinidad. The place to stay if you want to be near Trinidad and on or within a block of of the beach is La Boca. No hotels, but a number of pleasant casas. The local beach at the mouth (la boca) of the river is nice enough, and there are two others, one sandy with lots of lumps of coral scattered about about 3 km away, and another, Playa Ancon, which is a long sandy beach, some parts with natural shade from sea grape trees, about 6 km away--both of these easy to get to from La Boca on a bicycle (which your casa host can help you find to rent.) Trinidad is 6 km away, too, and also within easy cycling distance.
