Does anyone know how long it takes to travel by car from Holguin to Trinidad? Secondly how long from Holguin to Baracoa by car?

Does anyone know what the extra fee normally is for renting a car in one place and dropping it off in another town?

Trinidad to Holguin, not sure of the time--maybe 6 hours? Somewhere around there's an interactive route which can show you the exact number of km. Most of this route is along the Carretera Central, which is two-lane pavement, not bad, but slow going due to lots of big trucks spewing filthy exhaust. If you opted to drive this stretch, I would strongly advise that you leave Trinidad just before dawn, like around 5:30 AM, in order to miss the first hour or two of truck traffic, and to reach Holguin in early afternoon, before evening going-home traffic, with plenty of daylight time to find your casa or hotel.

Holguin to Baracoa, is four or five hours, depending on which route you take, how fast you drive, and whether you get lost. The pavement between Moa and Baracoa is terrible; linked potholes. The other route, via Guantanamo, is quite good, and very scenic, especially between Guantanamo and Baracoa.

The dropoff charge is very high; last time I checked, which was maybe three years ago, it was never under 100 CUC.

You might want to consider a schedule which would have you FLYING from Havana to Baracoa, and traveling back in short segments by Viazul bus, Baracoa-Santiago (5 hours), Santiago-Holguin (3 hours), Holguin-Trinidad (nor sure, maybe 8 hours), Trinidad-Havana (5 hours). In each of those places, if you wanted to do outlying beaches, mountains, whatever, you could either rent a car or a car with driver for a day or several.

Holguin to Trinidad is $28 - 8.5 hrs, by Viazul, ya can't beat that.

Drop off charges vary by company and by distance. Nashtravel used to or, still does, list some of them. Unfortunately I don't have a link to that site from the computer I am typing this post.

Cubacar and Viacar: about 0.10 cuc per km distance between the 2 cities of pick up and drop off.
10 cuc when dropping the car in the same city but another drop off point
Cubacar drop off charges
REX: no charges as long as you drop off the car at an office of REX
