I'm proposing to my long term girlfriend this upcoming trip.

What I want to know is if I bring it in my carry on if there are duties / taxes to bring the ring?

Anyone know whether to bring it in their carry on or checked luggage?

I'm a bit concerned about the cost of the duties on importing the ring.

Can you comfortably wear on your small finger without it being conspicuously extraneous?

In checked baggage is obliviously risky.

I'm a male. I'd look a bit ridiculous with a big sapphire Stone and bunch of diamonds lol. I don't think it would fit either shes less than 1/2 my size.

If it does fit, then just tell the folks at Cuba Customs that you are a big fan of Liberace. A lot better than having to pay a duty charge, don't you reckon?
That's what I would do. Good luck.

I would do as cw says !
Or failing that, in a pocket or in your carry on. Not in checked luggage !

I have no idea if this would strictly be subject to duty.

I do not think custom would bother with this, ...on your finger , or in a necklace around your neck, could be an idea. Cubans have all kinds of glitter on them when they arrive and I never seen any of them being stopped at custom because of that.

never ever put anything of significant value in checked luggage...just don't do it.

Put it on a fancy gold or silver chain around your neck so it does not show. If customs asks you about it, you tell them it is your mothers engagement ring from your father. You think about them everyday and send them prayers. Wear a couple rings and a bracelet so you look like a gaudy person who loves flashy jewelry. Not too flashy or they will send you to secondary as a Cuban American.

I do have some left over gold plated jewellery from when I was in my early 20s passing a summer in Cuba and thought it would be cool to Bling Up so I could probably make that work lol.

Put it in your pocket before you pass through immigration, then dump it with your pocket change in the basket provided, they won't notice.
