Hi,

We will be in Cuba from 15 to 29 june following and if possible we would like to see a performance by the national ballet. We would even adapt our trip to be in Havana at the time of the performance.

We've read the programmation on their site and, if the information is correct, there would be performances 22-23-24-28-29 june

Can reservations be made in advance? Is there a booking office somewhere? Are the performances mostly sold out in advance? What are the prices for tourists?

Thanks in advance,

Steven

The first few rows of the centre section of the theatre are, I think, "reserved" for foreigners. I doubt you will need to make a reservation. You go to the theatre to get the tickets which are now 20 CUC's.

Hi Steven, if you are a ballet fan just to be in the Teatro Garia Lorca is worth the price of the admission. I was there a few years ago for a tour of the theater in the afternoon and we were offered tickets for the night performance in peso because my friends are Cubans and they told the guide I was a student with a Cuban ID card so I couldn’t tell you what it would cost. But I have been in the Teatro Tomas Terry in Cienfuegos and again my amiga purchased the tickets for 5 peso and its $5 CUC for tourists.

Lizt Alfonso and her dance group will be in Toronto from Havana this weekend to perform at The Royal Alexandra Theatre. There will be a previewing June 1 and 2 with performance on June 5 to 10 priced at $20 to $85. They should be back in Havana by the 15th for the National Ballet. www.mirvish.com for info

have a great trip

I just saw the Ballet Nacional last Friday while they were visiting San Jose, Costa Rica (and had the honor of photographing the performance). They put on a fabulous performance so don't miss your chance to see them in Cuba.

The Ballet Nacional probably has different troupes, and probably their best performers are in the travelling troupe. I don't regularly attend the ballet, and have probably only been to about 20 ballet performances in my life. The only time I have seen a ballet dancer fall was at a performance of Giselle in Havana - albeit one of the minor roles. Still, quite a surprise and it did affect the flow of the performance, imo.
