Hi,

I'm going to Costa Rica in a few weeks and the first stop will be in the Arenal area. We won't have a car, and I'm trying to decide if it is better to stay in La Fortuna or in the outskirts. It seems like the outlying areas are more tranquil than La Fortuna itself, but I don't want to feel trapped without a car. Any recs for places to stay in the $50 or less range? We've done the hard-core backpacking thing and are now looking for a step up from that (but still budget). Clean, private…

Hello every one,

Which is a better method of payment in Belize, credit card, ATM card or traveler's checks?

I don't want to carry too much cash in my pocket, so what do you suggest.

Thank you in advance, Tomas.

We are in Antigua now and are slowly working our way down to Roatan to attend a wedding. We purchased some Chloroquine...but it was so cheap, if we don't have to use it we would just as soon not put it into our body.

What are the experiances of other travelers to Roatan.....is there a high risk of Malaria???

Thanks,
Firefly

Does anyone have contact info for a hotel near SJO called Cap's Place? I have friend who highly recommended it, but I can't find any info online about it.

Also, I've heard that gas stations may be closed parts of Easter Week, ditto for liquor stores and bars. Anyone have any good info about those or other closures? We're prepared to take it as it comes re: lodging, but we will need to eat and drink and fuel up.

We'll be in-country from April 5-16.

A bit of a dilemma here. We are three couples traveling to CR in March. One of the six of us cannot walk very well. Mostly a block (at most). Is Manuel Antonio a place where one can drive through the park or otherwise experience the place without a lot of walking? Our friend is very gracious and would spend time reading under a cabana, but I want to make sure that all of us can be accomodated and have an enjoyable experience. Can you provide some information for us? We are still planning the…

This April the Henry King Medical Brigade will be working for 10 days in the Sula, Santa Barbara region of Honduras. There will be about 46 doctors, nurses, translators and high school aged kids setting up clinics in some of the smaller villages. This is probably the 15th year that we have made the trip to the area.

Historically we have taken one day off and many times that day was a trip to Copan. For first time visitors we encourage folks to visit the ruins. This is a very special place. Some…

Next trip to El Sal I'll be spending some time around Juayua and Apeneca. Does anyone know about the diving and fishing potentional in Laguna Verde? Last time I was there the water didn't look too clear and there were no boats around but it's a real pretty area so I'm curious. Thanks for any info!

Is it possible to send a few kg´s home (europe) from Guatemala ?
I know for sure that i will buy a thing or two to take home from
Guatemala, but since i will continue travel for a long time after leaving Guatemala
it would be a big relief to send it home.
I have never sent big packages anywhere from central/south america before
not even letters..

i read somewhere that is was very expensive even to send a few papers and therefore not worth it...
also people claiming that none of the letters they sent…

Hi all,

I was just wondering if I could get in contact with anyone who's been to Punta Gorda recently, and who may or may not have run into "Big Jer" Jerry Shaver, who used to run a restaurant/bar called the Titanic on the waterfront in PG. Anyway don't want to get too frantic but he's my step-dad, and I haven't heard from him and my mom in a couple months, so it would be great if anyone could let me know if they've heard from them or seen them lately.

If so, please drop me a line at…
