Where to stay in granada?

Country forums / Central America / Nicaragua

Hi,

i already read the forum here about recommendations but so far i am not sure wether i should stay at the bearded monkey or at the oasis.

I read the owners and staff at the bearded monkey are far away from friendly and helpful but the place itself seems to be nice.

I will be arriving on my own, so I am looking for a place to meet other young travellers. Not sure if there is a big difference between the monkey and the oasis?

Greets,

Alex

I took a look at the Bearded Monkey but didn't stay there. It seemed awfully grungy and dirty, even for a budget hostel. The staff weren't terribly helpful either. When I asked to see a room, they just pointed toward the back of the hotel. When I got back there, I had to ask one of the maids to unlock the room and let me see it.

I'm not sure how it compares to The Oasis and other hostels in that price range (dirt cheap), but it wasn't very impressive to me.

The places I've enjoyed the most...cost excluded... have always been those with helpful staff and owners. If they don't make you feel comfortable...you probably won't be. If that wasn't the case we would rate all hotels by their mattresses.

Why don't you try Hospedaje La Siesta...the prices are very reasonable and it's spotless and Bporis and Marcela are wonderful.

Hi:
I can not really comment anything about the Bearded Monkey, but I stayed at Oasis for a week and it was great. Really clean, staff was friendly and helpful, I had a 10 minute free international call everyday, free coffee and tea all day long, swimming pool, good selection of movies which are for free to see. Highly recommended

My advise:Go there and see for your self:)Or try oasis or one of the otherones.I liked Bearded monkey a lot, and found the staff very friendly and helpful.Sometimes they can be a bit sharp, maybe sometimes because of many annoying, stupid questions and demands from tourists who can't think for them self. bearded monkey is full lmost aery day, there must be a reason why???If you want to meet lots of people, Bearded monkey is the right place for you. It's a nice hostel. And Dirty??No...didn't see that. The food there is good too, they have a little bot of everything.

Oasis.

Stayed 3 nights Feb 2007. Good location. Very very Clean. Quiet. Friendly. Wide range of travelers. Free phone call and free internet with at least six workstations. Walk to El Zagun - get a great steak and a bottle of Argentinian or Chiliean Cabernet.

Oasis every time. REALLY clean(they seemed to be constantly cleaning the floor with anti-bug stuff) and v friendly, great facilities, loads of hammock space and a whole range of rooms from dorms to double ensuite.

We went to bearded monkey for dinner to see how it compared and had really bad service from the staff and the whole place just seemed loads shabbier.

Oasis is definately the place to be. Clean, comfortable, cheap, plenty of other mochileros, and friendly! We stayed for a few days in April 2007. Also, Katy's Waffle's for breakfast and El Zaguan and/or El Tercer Ojo for Dinner!!!
