What Where When How!!!Country forums / Central America / Belize
Hi People, Myself and my partner are hoping to visit Belize next March and will have approx. 14 days. In the first 7 days we would like to take in some Mayan Ruins (preferable some of the better sites as I understand there are many in Belize), experience the jungle including its wildlife, and hopefully include a trip to Tikal plus anything else that is recommended to us :) The second 7 days we want to spend on an island for some R & R and some Scuba Diving, ideally somewhere less busy than Ambergris Caye where it is possible to snorkle from the beach. I hope someone can help with some advise on this. Many thanks worldwidewanders Edited by: worldwidewanders
Check out my travelogue and photos below - we loved every place we stayed and everything we did in Belize. | 1
Check out placencia.com Placencia is great place to chill out and dive. If you are there for the full moon, there is the migration of whale sharks. Also check out Caye Calker. | 2
I fully agree with above. Both Placencia and Caye Caulker are amazing, two of the most beautiful places in cental america. If you're interested in doing any underground river discovery or adventure sports - San ignacio is the place to go. | 3
Cayo and San Ignacio is the place to go for ruins and for a trip to Tikal. You may want to consider an extra day in Guatemala to visit Yaxha as well. Though a little out of the way in relation to San Ignacio and the Cayes, Lamanai is a nice daytrip from Orange Walk or Belize City. The ruins are interesting, great rainforest setting, and quite a bit of wildlife. When we went a couple of years ago, we saw (and heard) a number of howler monkeys at the ruins, and saw lots of wildlife--mainly birds but also a couple crocs and iguanas--on the hour or so boatride on the New River to the site. | 4
