Weekend in Costa Rica

Country forums / Central America / Costa Rica

I am heading down tomorrow on a short-notice business trip for two weeks. I'll have the middle weekend to explore for myself. I'll be based in Santa Ana for the two weeks, and will be pretty busy during the weekdays.

I noticed that May 1st there is Labour Day, but I have no idea if that means things will be shut down that day or not.

Any suggestions on what I should definitely check out over a two day window. Looks like it will be lots of rain while I'm there as well.

Sorry for the short notice, but I only found out myself about 48 hours ago.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance!

have you tried googling "tours from san jose, costa rica"? this would be the first place to start.

on a weekend, you can
take a rafting trip
visit one of several volcanoes
take a coffee tour
head for the beach
go to la fortuna for arenal volcano

among other things. just do a little research and pick the ones that appeal to you.

on may 1, some things will be closed.... some won't. touristic things will be open. you would need to check with whatever thing you are intending to do.

May 1st don't mean a lot here its a Sunday and most businesses are closed anyways as it is a Catholic country as WIREMU mentioned daily tours are available from any hotels personally I would recommend rafting on Pacuare if in good health, more relax is Lankaster Gardens in Cartago with their Orchid farm from UCR, on sundays they serve an excellent brunch. cheers
