TRUJILLO

Country forums / Central America / Honduras

Anybody been to this city lately? IT too was a decent place a few years ago. Safety concerns using common sense of course, not getting drunk, walking home., always taking taxis at night. etc.

Trujillo, Honduras?

I was there this past summer, for about 3 days.

It's a nice beach town overall: the beaches are surprisingly clean and beautiful, and the surrounding area seems to be undisturbed as well. Capiro-Calentura National Park is nearby, but I didn't get to visit it since I checked out the nearby lagoon instead.

I took the same safety precautions I have elsewhere in Central America:

-Know what you're basically planning on ahead of time.
-Keep a flexible schedule.
-Don't go to obvious shady spots.
-Don't carry around valuables (travel lightly).
-Ask about what the do's and don'ts are.

Trujillo is kind of "out there." It gets very little attention, like much of Honduras, so the tourism infrastructure wouldn't be considered sturdy, but nonetheless reasonable, and is part of the authentic experience.
