Trip to Roatan

Country forums / Central America / Honduras

I have a trip planned to Roatan next Wednesday, October 7th to the 12th. I fly into San Pedro Sula and taking a bus to La Ceiba and taking the ferry to Roatan. Am I going to run into any problems with the current situation that is going on in Honduras? If so, is there anything I can do?

I am in a very similar situation.

Is the airport to San Pedro Sula still open?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm flying in on Oct. 9th. I have been calling around the country trying to get an idea of what it's like on the ground. Everyone says the tourist spots are not dangerous and have not felt any effects of the on going political drama. The biggest thing is getting out of San Pedro asap. We are considering a private driver to Copan, although a chicken bus may be just as safe if not safer(?).

I would love to hear feedback from anyone in Honduras, or knows someone there. Until two days ago I was thinking I would have to either cancel the trip or skip any mainland activities. But after talking to people in Utila, Copan and the north coast I feel much better about the trip. The only thing that concerns me now is mainland transportation. Our trip involves a 2-3 day stop in Copan, before we travel to the north coast for a 3 day stay in a lodge near La Ceiba (tours of Pico Bonito and Cuero Y Salado) and then on to utila for diver certification.

Any feedback on transportation would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and as far as I know, the airports are all open, the curfew has been lifted and buses are running on time.

Hey all, I just posted our trip report on the Honduras board, but to directly answer your question...you should have no problems. We did hear the ferry was a bit rough, but if you're up for some Dramamine then go for it. We flew in and out of Roatan through San Pedro Sula and other than your typical flight delays everything was fine. As I also noted, the weather is still looking great - the rains are a few weeks late this year! Have fun!

Was in San Pedro twice last month once in the Airport. Noticed nothing other than the usual. No troops, no riots and no civil strife.
