Staying in Alajuela, domestic flights

Country forums / Central America / Costa Rica

Hi, I have seen your recommendations to stay in Alajuela coming/going from flights. There are so many places, have some recommendations for reasonably quiet places in walking distance from town for food/drinks. Looking for nicer places around $100.
I only found an old thread on the domestic airlines, and I apologize as I know I read pros/cons but can't find them for Natureair/Sansa. Does one have better windows for sightseeing?
Going to Puerto Jiminez and Samara.
Thanks!!

They are about the same. Nature Air flies twin engine Osprey that are much larger interiors, seats maybe 40 people, but about the same size windows, maybe a tad larger. Sansa flies commercial Single Engine Sesna that seats about 25 people.

The issue will be clouds and weather. The flight from SJ to Pt Jimenez would be best as its over the mountains and then down the coast. They fly at about 10,000 ft.

You can not fly from PJ to Samara, you would need to go back to SJ, then get a flight to Samara. This flight is nice in the first 15 minutes climbing over the Talamancas (and bumpy) and then its all ranch country, though you can see the coast and bay between Jaco and Montezuma.

For budget of $100 for a hotel, just stay next to airport at Holiday Inn or Hampton Inn, they area newer properties and managed by the same company.

Otherwise, head to a nice lodge nearby like- http://www.hotelgranodeoro.com

otherwise, check Expedia/Kayak.

I have had much better luck on Hotel.com than Expedia or Kayak, lots more listings on Hotel.com..
