Snorkling off mainland?

We're considering staying several days in Feb. near Pico Bonito Nat'l. Park. We also would love to get some snorkeling in. Is there a good place to stay/snorkel off the mainland, or do we need to head to the islands? Thanks!

The only way you can access good snorkeling from La Ceiba is by hiring a boat to take you out to the islands. There's no good snorkeling from shore on the mainland (contrary to post 1) - waves and no reef.
