SJDS - Solo Traveler - Where to stay?Country forums / Central America / Nicaragua
Hey everyone! I'm heading to SJDS Memorial Day Week solo (female) and am looking for any insights on where to stay. I'd prefer to stay somewhere where I can book a private room but do not want to pay over $40 a night and would like to be in town. Second, if anyone has any recommendations on where to start with surfing lessons I'd appreciate it too! Looking forward! Cheers,
I stayed at La Posada Azul which is more expensive, but they have a cheaper hotel, Coco something, that is right next door. This is a perfect location for a single traveler as it is just around the corner from the main street and on an quiet but active corner. Safe to walk anywhere from here. It is why I stay in that area. | 1
The best hotel in town for the money that I found was called El Encanto for $20US you get a clean private room with a fan and cable TV. It is somewhere near the little kids park and a close walk to everything in town. | 2
Hi, I just returned from SJDS after staying at two different hotels. Hotel Maracuya, which is a cross between a bed-and-breakfast and a hostel (they also have dorm rooms) was nicely situated on a hill a short walk from town, and my small room was $30 including breakfast. Great views and a nice roof deck to sit and read while watching the sunset. There was a nice mix of single travelers and couples and it was very laid back. I then decided to move to the Hotel Azul Pitahaya which was only $5 more and included air-con and hot water. Breakfast was not included, but the hotel is right on top of the Barrio Cafe with amazing food. I would recommend both places; the staff at both were very friendly. Have fun! | 3
