| inadunai14:29 UTC02 Feb 2008 | Hi everyone! While trying to plan our vacation in Kuna Yala I have gotten quite confused with hotel prices, for they change from day to day and from book to book etc. So maybe somebody from you have so called first-hand information about what does cost a night per person, food and trip included, at hotel El Porvenir and hotel Kuanidup cabanas? And is anything heard about Isla Robinson? They used to have a nice hotel too - are they still existing? Any idea about the pricing? And when does one pay, in advance, before, after the stay? And another question - how does camping works on the islands? If I am on some island, camping, how do I reach anybody who owns a boat so that I can get a ride to the airport? Of course, a destiny of Robinson Crusoe is not so bad if we are speaking about Kuna Yala, but still we wouldn't want to miss the plane back to London. And are there any hammocks to be bought in Kuna Yala (El Porvenir or other inhabited island)? I have also the feeling that it is not dangerous in Kuna Yala to camp out, and there is no difference whether males or females do it; am I right? I would be very thankful for information!

You might find someone willing to let you camp but where will you eat etc? There are no restaurants and only very basic stores on some of the islands.
The hotel at Porvenir is right alongside the airstrip - even with only one flight a day it's not the nicest of locations. In a recent post on here or Trip Advisor someone said that Kuanidup was $65 per person per day - most lodges include transport from the airport and back, 3 meals and daily trips either snorkeling or to a village. Robinson's never had a "nice" hotel - if they are still going then they are basic bungalows at best.
I was just at an island called Wailys Lodge that had two bungalows that were $120 per night (I assume for two) - quite close to Porvenir. Not sure if Waily would allow camping there or not.
Payment is usually either at the lodges Panama office before departure or on arrival at the lodge. Most prefer prepayment to avoid loss of revenue from last minute cancellations.
Cheers, Andrew

Because I thought to stay quite long there, actually. The last price I got by email from Kuanidup was 95 p. p. per night and that seems weird since yes, this January it was 65 USD, and April is not even the same high season. Maybe it depends how one books and such. Wailys, I wonder what does the place look like and how does contact them? I really wonder, since I seem not to be able to find any references online whatsoever.

Mail me at vincent@travellingaid.nl if you need help or more specific info about san blas.
