Safe place to stay San Pedro Sula for one night

Country forums / Central America / Honduras

Hi everyone
I can't seem to find much info online, don't have a guide book, and I'm leaving soon....hoping someone sees this and can steer me in the right direction.
I'm taking the Casassola Express tomorrow afternoon from Copan to San Pedro Sula (get to SPS evening-ish I'm guessing), and will be taking the early morning TICA bus to Nicaragua the next day. I'm hoping to find a recommendation for a safe, clean place to crash for the night, ideally relatively close, or at least conveniently located, to get to and from the bus station(s)? Woman traveling alone, on a backpacker's budget.

Thanks in advance!
Rebecca

You're not going to really find any place close to the terminal with any price range. Years ago I searched/scouted through all the downtown budget places and found Hotel San José to be the better option

Stayed there again this last summer, and cost for a single with private bath was still Lps150, just as it's always been. The place is secure and sufficiently comfortable, and only about a 3-block walk to Parque Central. Plenty of places to eat in the area; don't really recommend being out after 9pm.

I paid Lps70 to get from hotel out to the bus terminal, but it was early of a morning during one of the Honduran World Cup games when everyone was watching and hardly any drivers out. If you speak any amount of Spanish, you can probably negotiate something cheaper.
