Roatan & Tropical Storm Matthew

Country forums / Central America / Honduras

Hi Folks. First off, I hope that Tropical Storm Matthew doesn't adversely effect Central America too badly, and that any of you living in/visiting the area remain safe.

Much less importantly, I'm currently scheduled to fly into Roatan on Saturday morning, a few hours before the storm passes DIRECTLY over the island. I have a feeling I'll wake up tomorrow morning and learn that the good folks at Delta have canceled my flight, leaving me with the decision of re-booking for another date or refunding the miles I used to book.

Hoping and Roatanians and/or diving experts can answer a few questions for me:
1) How long does it typically take the island to get back up to speed after a tropical storm? Is power out for a prolonged period of time?
2) The purpose of my trip is to get PADI-certified, and I'm wondering how much time it takes the Caribbean to "settle down" after having all that sand n' such churned up by a storm. Will visibility be diminished a week or more afterwards?

Thanks, and like I said above, please be safe!
