Panama tourist stamp good for 6 months or 3?

Country forums / Central America / Panama

Hi all,

I apologize if this is an idiotic question, and it may well be! I am in Panama and have been here for 2 months... last year I was told that your entry stamp on the passport (coming as a tourist) was only good for 90 days. I've been operating on this assumption since I arrived again this year, but was recently told that it is actually good for 180 days. I found this in wikitravel.org:

"Citizens of some countries, Australia, Canada, Japan and US citizens included, may enter Panama with a tourist visa that is stamped on arrival (the cost is automatically included in your airfare and is valid for a 180-day stay as of August 2010)."

I'd be elated if it were 6 months, as it will prolong my trip to the border of Costa Rica to renew. Thanks for any valid info or links you can provide!

It is 180 days

You may come across the occasional immigration official who still thinks it's 3 months but it's 6

The previous government changed it from 6 to 3, but the current one changed it back again
