How does a person get from Panama too Colombia? I mean on a budget¡! Or lets say from Central America To Colombia? What about the Darien Gap?¡?¿ I dont want to let my ticket from Bogata too Los Angles go to waste. The ticket is for the end of this month
Try the new airline VivaColombia. $65-80 one way depending on you dates. | 1
The only way to cross the Darien Gap is with an all-out jungle expedition. No finished roads and obviously no bus service. there are boats that go to Columbia from Panama but think they're pretty expensive. then, you'd have to get overland to Bogota. I think a flight is best, but only you can do the math on whether a bus from Mex, or a flight, to a Central American capital is cheaper. | 2
There are no Darien Gap adventure expeditions, its off limits to everyone, there are military checkpoints to prevent idiots from trying. Check in to the Darien Gapster.... Otherwise, Fly. I assume you have about 4 months for MX to Panama, and don't forget, all of Centro America can fit into the size of Colombia, so far greater distances. | 3
If your flights from Mexico City to Bogota and Bogota to Los Angeles are issued on the same ticket then the fact that you did not use the Mexico City to Bogota flight usually means that all subsequent flights on that ticket are cancelled. | 4
I attempted to buy from viva colombia on a public computer just now. $126.00 I got a prepaid mastercard to deal with a problem like this, without puting my bank account details on the web. | 5
Have a hotel/agent buy it for you for a small fee, no hassles.... | 6
joebuba, this is not a new airline or web site. It is just a new route for them. | 7
joebuba, I just booked a flight PTY-MDE for $61 o/w on September 15th. I did everything except push the buy button. And I have bought two tickets last month with US credit card and no problems. | 8
thanks for the tip. Public computers are not always safe. I will try again from another place. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4L7gsJfgJaw&list=RD4BPH60V3mCY&index=2 | 9
Minor point on your "There are no Darien Gap adventure expedition." What I said was "all out jungle expedition," not an adventure one for thrill seekers. Nat'l Geo had a big story this year, or maybe in 2013, on an expedition that crossed the Darien Gap. That story did said it was suicidal to try it on your own, but did say that a few research groups led by highly experienced jungle experts and with all the required permisos by both governments, do cross the Gap every year. | 10
There is no such thing, they needed special permissions, permits and a military escort. Please provide a company offering to take tourist across the Darien Gap via land? Its not just the elements that are harsh, there is FARC, Narco Traffickers and Indigenous Indians rebel groups all shooting first and asking questions later. Neither the Panama or the Colombia governments has any relationship with these groups and therefor, can not let people go through this zone, its been this way for a long time. The last time someone attempted it was the guy running around the world, he needed a 16 person military escort, and people still say he didn't cross the entire way, but ended up taking a launcha for portions due to safety. | 11
Secret Compass Darien Gap Adventures latest crossing March 2014. Someone related to this posted here months ago, and was chased-off by all the local experts claiming they were a troll, impossible couldn't be done, typical TT welcome for anyone posting about or suggesting something more than a pedestrianized, 'cookie-cutter' travel experience. EDIT for a quick search: Here's the thread. And I think it's obviously clear to whom the remarks are directed at. | 12
Pedestrian and cookie cutter? I have been to far more places in Costa Rica, than anyone on this forum, expat living there, or a local. I have met guides of 30 years in the biz in CR that have not even been to areas I have explored. And thats CR, never mind Burma, Vietnam and Laos. I go to places not on the map. The you cut n paste a article about a ultra select adventure that cost as much as most people budget for 2 months in Central America. This all from the self appointed expert on anything I happen to make a comment on..that is a good laugh indeed. Yes, we know who all your post are directed at, its very obvious, me. But if you are so almighty cool, then you should hire this outfit to take you, its $3000 and need a group of 12. Next one is in April 2015. Obviously, with enough money, planning and resources, you can cross the Darien Gap, but how many people can plan a trip like that? Don't forget the Malaria Meds. The average Joe, can not cross the Darien. Most can't even hike the LOOP in Corcovado... You can hire the Russians to take you to outer space too.. | 13
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ylhWPCekdM it can be done cut and paste you say, Avoid travel to remote areas of the Darién Province off of the Pan American Highway. U.S. Embassy personnel are not allowed to travel to the restricted border areas of the Darién and San Blas Provinces except on official business and only with prior approval of the Embassy’s Regional Security Officer and Deputy Chief of Mission. This restricted area encompasses the Darién National Park as well as some privately owned nature reserves and tourist resorts. The general remoteness of the region contributes to the potential hazards. Due to scarcity of roads, most travel is by river or by footpath. This, combined with spotty medical infrastructure outside of major towns, makes travel there potentially hazardous. While the number of actual incidents remains low, U.S. citizens, other foreign nationals, and Panamanian citizens are potentially at risk of violent crime, kidnapping, and murder in this general area. There have been reports of Colombian terrorist groups, drug traffickers, and other criminals operating in the Panama-Colombia border area, increasing the danger to travelers. The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) has been known to make incursions into remote areas of Panama’s Darién Province. The Secretary of State has designated the FARC as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. | 14
