we arrived a week ago in panama city and spent our first few nights at hotel san remo. a decent place for $39 a night for the two of us. it was called a suite but still small and had windows to the outside. the restaraunt was also decent and we enjoyed our meals there. lots of people had recommended eating at the hotel acupulco around the corner but it was cheaper and better food at our hotel restaraunt.

we went to mira flores and worth the time. the next day we did the train ride as that was my profession before getting injured and having to retire and travel. imo it is not worth the time and i have taken a few tain rides in different countries. no good views of the canal and if you saw mira flores, you pretty well saw it. on arriving in colon, we went to portabela and saw some ruins and the black crist. didn“t have to go back to colon in order to catch a bus to panama city.

we sepnt a few nights in santa fe at hostel laqia, $22 for a private room, shared bath. santa fe was beautfiful and we are heading back before the end of our trip. it is friendly town, lots of hiking and the people that own the hostal are very gracious.

we are now in david, very hot, and heading to volcan next. took gypsytoes advice and are staying in hotel occidental, $26 and some change for a night. we still have two weeks here, so will write more about the places we stay at before i head to guatemala to winter.

Sorry to hear the train ride was not up to par. I would have liked to have done it a few weeks ago when I was there, but couldn't fit it into the schedule. You figure its one of those trains rides that has to be done for what it is.
