Nicaragua to Costa Rica

Country forums / Central America / Nicaragua

Hi Everyone!
Myself and 3 friends will be touring around Central America for a few weeks, and I'm just wondering what the best way to get around will be. We are starting in Belize and then flying to Managua, where we'll then bus to Leon where we are staying. After Leon, we will be staying near Limon in Costa Rica and I'm just wondering what they best way/how long it will take for us to get there?
After that we will be staying near Bocas Del Toro in Panama and then from there we end our trip in Panama City.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on your definition of best way...do you mean fastest, cheapest, most scenic?

Nature air flys to CR from Managua I believe. Then you could do a shuttle or bus to limon or rent a car.

Search here and trip advisor for nic to cr, shuttles to limon, etc. and you will likely find a lot of previous questions / answers. You can even cross lake nic and enter near San Carlos then bus your way in CR if you have time.

More info on how much time you have and how much money matters would be helpful in answering.

good luck

Most folks here would take a Tica Bus to Costa Rica or Panama. They travel the length of Central America as does King Quality buses. Both are located in Managua around the Crown Plaza Hotel area. I know Tica will take you to either Liberia or San jose. Beyond that I am unsure. You would need to take other buses from there to your location.

Its 2 hours from Managua to CR Border, and 6 hours from border to San Jose, its another 5 hours from San Jose to Pt Viejo, switch bus terminals in SJ. Last bus leaves around 330pm for SJ to PV. From PV to BDT Panama is about 4 hours, but you lose an hour going to Panama time change. There shuttles between PV and BDT or you can bus/bus/boat, crossing via the Sixoala border.

Take Tica Bus or King Quality from Managua to San Jose CR for direct.
