Lago Yojoa Honduras / D&D Guesthouse

Country forums / Central America / Honduras

Lago Yojoa is spectacular. I wish I could say the same for D&D Guesthouse. They have a manager that is about as much help as a doorknob for info. He wasn't even sure how to make a call to neighboring Nicaraugua. There is nothing of Honduras in this guesthouse except for the kitchen and cleaning staff which seems to work about 15 hours a day straight. The food is totally american and over priced. The clientele is a bunch of screaming drunk people and totally annoying. The walls in the rooms are paper thin you can hear people peeing in the next room. They do have good beer but I did not go to Honduras for that.

If you want any info about the area go across the street to Leo's. He sells Jugo de Cana and it is superb. He can answer anything about the lake, buses, nearby towns and attractions and anything else you can dream up.

There are some very inexpensive comedors in the little town of Los Naranjos. Real Honduran food and atmosphere.
I highly recommend Lago Yojoa but stay somewhere else than D&D if you go.

I was there in January, and everyting was cool, except for there was a bit more sketch sitch problem for my liking.

1

eddy. In reference to sketch sitch. Have you thought about Montana, Idaho, or West Virginia?

i get the point. perhaps it's something in the environment

for anyone interested, check out my trip report: "A walk in parque eco-arqueologico los naranjos"

D&D Brewery? They have a pretty checkered past on this forum. Put your review on TRIP ADVISOR.

5

I hate so say it ,tartpaulschmidt, because I have always liked this forum, it is getting completely taken over by kootchabugs. Once my upcoming trip to central america is done, I am going to post a trip report and leave this forum for good.

6

eddy you just need to get rejuvenated by some righteous journey. I had a cleansing done by a shaman in Ecuador ( he's the guy behind me in the blowgun picture) with a little yuca chicha, some other things for the mind....fixed me right up.

7

I watched a really interesting episode of The Nature of Things last week regarding cleansing with jungle remedies. In this case, it was for drug addiction treatment using ayahuasca.
This video is worth checking out if it's available in your area.

Sorry to hi-jack your thread OP...

I read some negative reviews of D & D before I ventured there in January. That made it all the more attractive. If a place fails to get a 5 star review from mayo on whitebread stiff magazoon, are we to shun it? Is that what independent travel has come to? I hate so say it because I have always liked this forum, it is getting completely taken over by robots. Once my upcoming trip to central america is done, I am going to post a trip report and leave this forum for good.

9

I hate to say this, but eddy, your responses are becoming very generic and robotic, almost Qbotesque, and you know what happened to him, he left the forum on very strange terms...

10

I think I've been infected by qwobot with some kind of computer virus. I'll run a scan.

11

Yes, do that before the detox...good luck, were rootin for ya...

12

I bought one of these on ebay and wear it 24/7 and it seems to work pretty well. Get rechargeable batteries cause it really goes through the AAs.

Wow things must have changed since I was there in 2006. I loved it there. Made friends with the owner, a fellow Yank from Oregon who also has a passion for the same music as me. Because of that I think, I was offered free beer after beer and got a great discount on my room. Never really ate there as my budget was small. Usually ate up the road at a small eatery on the main road where the very nice woman who ran it also gave great deals and lots of food. And the lake is very beautiful except for the mosquitos at night. And as far as the place not being Honduran, well he is an ex-pat living in Honduras and he made his dream the way he wants it. If you want Honduran food(eg. beans and rice and fried chicken) and a Honduran enviroment(what ever that is?) then everyother place in Honduras sells that crap food. Honduras has the worst cuisine of any country I've visited.

D & D is not for stiffs

Ah Tom, I remember you're pleasant self visiting us at D&D and I remember all the guests trying to make an effort with you and finding it difficult. Apologies they weren't your type of people. I also remember you trying to call your friend in nicaragua that was supposed to be meeting you and didn't come... You told me that you were calling him and the phone call wasn't connecting, my suggestion to you then was that maybe he had a Nicaraguan number that wouldn't connect you if he was in Honduras. If you would have said that you didn't know how to call neighboring nicaragua im sure I would have been able to help. Other than that you never asked this door knob manager anything else or spoke when he made an effort to speak to you, so im sure you didn't get any information about the area. Regarding your other complaints I will let the owner respond to your wildly inaccurate statements and my only wish is that you would have told me your concerns in person, rather than afterwards, online, so that I could have dealt with them at the time.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your travels,

Anto (D&D Manager)

P.S. thankyou to everyone else who has also stayed recently and left great reviews.

17

If I come to D&D in January, do I get some kind of consideration for my promotional efforts?

18

I'll buy you a beer myself, seeya in January.

19

Puzzling, why Tom's friend in Nicaragua didnt make it???
