Jellyfish situation on Osa Peninsula?

Country forums / Central America / Costa Rica

Curious as to people's experiences regarding jellyfish in the ocean south of Puerto Jimenez on the Golfo Dulce side....are they any more prevalent than elsewhere in the country? (was talking to a friend who just got back and he said there were tons of them) Perhaps they are seasonal? Only reason I ask is that a family member has an unnatural aversion to them and will have a hard time going into the water if there are lots.
cheers

We stayed at one of the casas near Pan Dulce beach (on the Golfo Dulce) at the end of April. We went in the water one day and it was great. The next day we went in (stayed near shore) and got "stung." We didn't see any jellyfish at all though, and when we asked our neighbors (locals) they said they don't have jellyfish - that probably what got us were either "pulgas" - tiny insects (fleas?) or something that sounded like "ilos d'oro" which they said look like undulating mosquito netting? We didn't SEE anything. In any case they were a big ouch that lasted 15 min or so - and may or may not have left red dots/rash (or was that sunpoisoning - or was that something else - hard to know). Others said they were a problem next day as well so we didn't bother going in water. Surfers were out - out farther - every day though. Was there no problem out further or are surfers just tougher/immune?

I encountered sea lice(baby jellies) in Drake Bay, just around the penninsula in November, wear a lyrca dive suit( cheap and thin) and they will not be an issue. some are more sensitive to them than others.

If the person has a issue with jelly fish, and your in a remote area of a developing country, dont swim in the ocean.....its 11 hours to San Jose and Hospital...

actually Tim I just meant they were afraid of them...not allergic...
i think we will take our chances
