Hair salons....a cultural experience

Country forums / Central America / Honduras

Hola Fellow Travelers,

One of the things I like to do in each country I visit is to go to a beauty shop/salon (and I don't mean to imply anything fancy by using the word salon) and get my hair either cut or colored. I'm not talking about an ex-pat salon or one that is geared to tourists, but where the local women go.

I find it to be a real cultural experience to sit and listen to the women speak, (if I can understand the local language). It's a time off of sorts for most women when they go to get their hair cut and they are frequently chatty and laughing as women do in any country when they are in a beauty shop. Often the women are there to get their haircut for a special occasion, like a wedding. In Central & South America I've had my hair colored (usually highlights...o en espanol "reflejos") in Nicaragua, Guatemala, Panama, Mexico, Bolivia & Argentina. I also do the same thing when I'm in Asia or India. I've had great experiences doing this.

My question is, in Copan Ruinas or Gracias, are there places to get my hair colored or cut?

Thank you,

Suggest you try Antigua , Guatemala. Many salons there run by locals that do a great job of cut and color.

Thanks Paty.....I'm not going to Guatemala this time....just Honduras. Actually I've asked this question a year or so ago (when I was going to Guatemala) and you responded then and directed me to a salon in Antigua which I went to. Full circle.

I'm looking for one in Copan or Gracias now.
